ELECTION MONITOR E-COMPARE 2018 AUTOCOLLATION APPS

ELECTION MONITOR

Year when project started:

2018

Year when project ended:

Still ongoing

Project’s main objectives and results:

Our goal is to ensure greater transparency and integrity of the Nigerian electoral process by strengthening the capacities of political parties and citizens to track election results during elections. This also brings greater acceptability of final results released. In addition there would be fewer if any allegations which cannot be founded which in turn will reduce tension and ensure smoother election conduct. Ultimately this will increase the propensity for peaceful elections. Some of our achievements so far include having observed 12 elections, deployed 773 observers and carried out a total of 13 trainings.

I am the National Coordinator of Election Monitor. In this capacity, I conceptualised the E-Compare mobile and web apps from my experience observing elections in Election Monitor and seeing the challenges with the integrity of the results’ collation process firsthand. I first came up with the idea in 2014 but at the time the collation templates were made using Microsoft Excel. Using mobile and web apps was the logical next step because of the enhanced usability of these technologies. This was done in 2018. On behalf of Election Monitor I engaged a mobile and web app developer to build the app with the specified requirements.
